Stay Safe • Stay Prepared • Stay on the Road

Winter in New England is no joke. Between icy mornings, surprise snowstorms, freezing rain, and endless potholes, your tires and brakes take the hardest beating of the year. That’s why this season is the most critical time to make sure your vehicle is safe, winter-ready, and equipped to handle the unpredictable.

At Tires On Demand, we bring professional tire and brake service directly to your driveway, making winter prep fast, convenient, and stress-free.

Here’s what every driver should check before the temperatures drop and the first storm hits.

1. Swap to Winter or All-Weather Tires

Once temperatures consistently fall below 45°F, your all-season tires harden and lose grip. Winter tires stay flexible, grip snow and ice better, and can shorten stopping distance dramatically.

Signs you need winter tires:

  • Your car slides or fishtails even at slow speed
  • Your traction control light kicks on frequently
  • You commute early in the morning or late at night
  • You live in NH/Mass backroads, rural areas, or hilly towns

Tires On Demand Winter Tire Services:

✔ Mobile winter tire install
✔ Mounting & balancing
✔ All-season → winter swap outs
✔ New tire sales (we bring them to you!)

2. Inspect Your Brake Pads and Rotors

Cold weather exposes weak brakes fast. If your brakes are already soft, grinding, or vibrating, winter roads will only make it worse—and more dangerous.

Watch for these warning signs:

  • Squealing or grinding noises
  • Soft or spongy brake pedal
  • Increased stopping distance
  • Steering wheel shake when braking
  • Brake warning light on

We provide onsite:

✔ Brake inspection
✔ Brake pad replacement
✔ Rotor replacement
✔ Brake system safety check

3. Check Your Tread Depth

Your tires need enough tread to cut through slush, snow, and wet roads. Bald or worn tires are the #1 cause of winter skids.

You need new tires if:

  • Your tread depth is below 4/32
  • The wear bars are flush with the tire
  • You see uneven or scalloped wear
  • You hydroplane easily on wet roads

We measure tread for you during every appointment — you don’t even have to step outside.

4. Monitor Tire Pressure (It Drops Fast in the Cold)

Every 10° drop in temperature = 1–2 PSI lost.

That means a 40° swing can put your tires 8 PSI below where they should be — and that’s a major safety issue.

Low tire pressure can cause:

  • Poor traction
  • Premature tire wear
  • TPMS light turning on
  • Increased chance of blowouts

We check & adjust pressure with every visit.

5. Protect Your Wheels & Tires From Road Salt

Road salt is essential for safety but brutal on your vehicle. Salt buildup can corrode:

  • Brake lines
  • Rotors Calipers
  • Wheel rims
  • Tire beads and valve stems

A quick winter cleaning and inspection can prevent expensive repairs later.

6. Make Sure Your Spare Tire Is Usable

Winter is the #1 season for flat tires and roadside issues. Don’t wait until you’re stuck on the side of the road to find out your spare is flat or missing tools.

Winter hits hard — and usually without warning. Make sure your vehicle is ready.
